The Ultimate Guide to Juice Cleanses

Juicing has been a very popular trend that’s not only tasty but good for your health as well. There are several benefits linked to juicing and it’s now very convenient to pick up a juice, anytime, anywhere. You can even make your own juices at home. But what is juicing exactly and how do you start? Let’s go back to the beginning, where juicing all began…. Lemonade was the first produced juice that dates back to 16th century Italy, as an import. The concept originally came from the Middle East. Orange juice didn’t come about until the 17th century. So why is juicing so important and should you hop on the bandwagon? Benefits of juicing

Not only is juicing delicious but it also has several benefits for the body:

Before you begin any type of detox or cleanse you should always assess your health first and foremost. Drinking juice causes a rapid rise in blood sugar. If you are an individual that keeps up with a healthy nutritional diet on a daily basis, trying a juice cleanse might not be a bad idea. Consult with a doctor or nutritionist before starting to make sure it is safe for you.

What is cleansing and how do you do it?

Juicing is a “detox” diet that lasts anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. During this time, you only consume fruit and vegetable juices to achieve proper nutrition while cutting out regular food. By cleansing, you’re basically pushing the restart button on your body. Through drinking juice and cutting out the foods you would normally eat every day, your body goes through several motions to adjust and “reset.” For starters, your metabolism slows down. By not reaching your caloric needs, which for most is around 1,200 calories a day, your body goes into conservation mode. Eventually you will experience caffeine withdrawal, weakness, headaches and low energy.

Although you may feel these not so great effects from juicing, the outcome is worth it. If you decide to jump on the juice train, listen to what your body is telling you. If you decide to juice for a few days or even weeks, power through and think of the way you’ll feel afterwards. Weight loss, increased energy, decrease in pain and improved sleep are just some of the benefits from this type of detox. After cleansing you should keep up with a balanced diet to continue to feel the benefits from the cleanse.
