What Is Concierge Medicine?
Concierge medicine is a healthcare model that allows patients and physicians to work directly together without the usual barriers typically experienced when going to the doctor.
Instead of making numerous calls to an office only to be put on hold or told the doctor can see you in a few weeks or months, you'll receive the personalized care you're looking for
What to Expect Before, During, and After a Concierge Visit With Dr. Howard
Before your first visit, you will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Howard and our nurse, Faith. During this “meet and greet,” you will learn more about the practice and what to expect.
Prior to your first visit, we do our best to obtain your past medical records (when available). You will complete our set of forms, and your vitals will be taken. During your first visit, we usually spend between one to two hours reviewing your history, performing a comprehensive examination, and creating a plan for you that may include ordering tests and/or imaging.
At checkout, Dr. Howard’s assistant, Faith, will arrange for the testing and give you a follow-up date to review everything that was ordered. Additionally, during that first visit, you will gain access to our electronic health record portal, where you can view test results and the “Care Plan” created by Dr. Howard.
If you have any questions after the visit, simply reach out to the office by phone, email, or call/text Dr. Howard directly. Our goal is for you to feel completely satisfied and cared for by our office.

Concierge Care Membership
There is a single fee that covers all office visits and any interactions you will have with Dr. Howard. This includes live and telehealth visits, phone calls, texts, emails, and any other way you choose to interact with our office.
Our fee is not covered by insurance, and we do not accept insurance plans of any type, including Medicare. We strongly suggest that you maintain your insurance for laboratory testing, imaging, consultations with specialists, and hospitalizations if needed (although we hope it isn’t necessary). Our office does not charge copays or coinsurance, eliminating a big hassle and barrier to exceptional care.
Individual and personalized care takes time and attention, which is why we limit our membership to optimize the time spent with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who Is a Good Candidate for Concierge Medicine?
Concierge medicine is ideal for individuals who want more time with their physician, convenient access, and a proactive approach to managing their health. It works well for patients with ongoing health concerns, busy professionals, retirees, and anyone who values a deeper connection with their doctor.
Can I Use My HSA or FSA to Pay for Concierge Medicine?
Many patients are able to use funds from a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account for this type of care. Because each plan is different, it’s a good idea to check with your HSA or FSA administrator to confirm what’s covered.
Can a Concierge Doctor Help With Mental Health Concerns?
While Dr. Howard does not replace a licensed therapist or psychiatrist, he can support your mental health by evaluating symptoms, discussing treatment options, and coordinating care when appropriate.
Can I See My Concierge Doctor on Weekends or Holidays?
Dr. Howard offers 24/7 access, which includes evenings, weekends, and holidays for urgent concerns. Availability is just a call or message away.
What Should I Bring to My First Comprehensive Visit?
For your initial visit, it helps to gather any information that gives Dr. Howard a clear picture of your health background. This could include:
- A list of current medications and supplements
- The names of any specialists you see
- Information about past diagnoses or major procedures
- Recent readings from a home blood pressure cuff, glucose meter, or fitness tracker
It also helps to think about any symptoms or goals you want to discuss, so nothing is overlooked. Comfortable clothing is recommended since you may have a thorough exam during this appointment.
What Kinds of Preventive Screenings Should I Consider?
Preventive screenings vary based on age, medical history, and personal risk factors, but several are commonly recommended. These may include assessments for:
- Blood pressure
- Cholesterol
- Diabetes
- Thyroid function
- Bone density
- Cardiovascular risk
Dr. Howard may also recommend cancer screenings such as colon, skin, breast, or prostate evaluations, depending on your demographic profile. He can help determine which tests are right for you by reviewing your health background and discussing any concerns you may have.
Is Concierge Medicine Primarily for People With Chronic Conditions?
People with long-standing health concerns can benefit from this model, but it isn’t limited to them.
Many healthy individuals choose concierge care because they want a physician who has more time to understand their needs, answer questions, and help them stay ahead of future concerns. Those with active lifestyles, busy schedules, or a desire for a more personal healthcare experience often appreciate the added availability and convenience.
Whether you’re looking for better management of existing conditions or simply want a more attentive approach to everyday wellness, concierge medicine can support a wide range of needs.
How Does the Concierge Model Support Early Detection of Health Problems?
Because this model allows for longer visits and easier communication, physicians can gather more detailed information about your symptoms, lifestyle, and health patterns. This makes it easier to notice small changes that might be overlooked in a rushed setting.
Regular check-ins, timely follow-up, and frequent access to your doctor help address concerns sooner rather than later. More comprehensive evaluations and personalized monitoring also help identify early warning signs of conditions affecting the heart, metabolism, hormones, digestion, and other systems.
In general, identifying issues promptly leads to better outcomes and simpler treatment plans.
Does Concierge Medicine Include Guidance on Long-Term Wellness?
Yes. Concierge medicine often emphasizes maintaining health over time rather than responding only when problems arise.
Dr. Howard can discuss nutrition, activity levels, stress, sleep habits, and other factors that influence overall well-being. He may also help you set realistic health goals, evaluate your progress, and adjust recommendations as needed.
This approach encourages steady improvements and supports healthier routines. Because communication is more accessible and visits are more in-depth, you can explore concerns and ask questions that might not fit into a standard appointment elsewhere.
